Winter weather can be tough on fencing, gates and garden boundaries. A little preparation and regular maintenance can go a long way towards keeping everything looking good and working as it should. Here are a few helpful tips from the Stratton Fencing team.

After strong winds, check for loose panels, movement or damage. Catching small problems early can help prevent more significant repairs.

Check around the base of wooden posts for signs of rot, movement or deterioration. Make sure posts remain secure and stable.

Remove accumulated leaves, soil and garden debris from around the bottom of your fencing. This helps prevent moisture from sitting against timber for prolonged periods.

Check gate hinges, catches, bolts and fixings. Make sure gates open and close properly, and look out for sagging or stiffness.

Heavy branches can cause damage during winter storms. Where safe to do so, keep trees and shrubs maintained around fence lines.

Look out for worn or weathered timber treatments. Only apply preservatives when weather conditions and the product instructions are suitable.
If your fencing has seen better days, your gate needs attention or you’re thinking about a new installation, the Stratton Fencing team is here to help.
